Organization Strategies and Savings Management, EXTRA BUTTONS, and other unquantifiable attractions. I inherited a cache of “Extra Buttons” in their original small printed envelopes that had been stashed in a shoebox long ago. They intrigued me on a conceptual level as well as from a design point of view. There are 15 total and I photographed each one individually against a gray background. The book is comprised of these photographs interspersed with various photos I have taken around the world of other groupings or collections of saved things. Dimensions 6” x 9,” 34 pages.
SECURITY. In this book I show examples of over 100 security envelope patterns in grids of 2” x 2” swatches. Other pages show transparent glowing images of wing shaped envelopes and photographs I took at airports shortly after 9/11 of airplanes and other equipment through fingerprint smudged windows. Dimensions 6” x 9,” 68 pages.
SPIN-OUT. This book is a book of a book. It reproduces my book of drawings that I have shown here earlier. Dimensions 6” x 9,” 34 pages.
Sweet for me. My photo Sweet Sorrow was published in City Pages to promote the opening of Some of My Favorite Things, at Fox Tax Gallery, Minneapolis. Also on display will be my photo, Couture. The opening reception is this Saturday, December 11 from 6 - 10 pm.
Summer work. Not as much as I’d like to show. Too many interruptions such as “yardening” (my coinage), of yard + garden, out of town weekend trips, the studio being too hot too often until I installed the air-conditioner I’ve had for two years, drilling down deep and writing a statement (much much time), my teaching job + preparing for a trip in September (bonjour + hasta luego).
to the people who said they needed to see my work at AAW. You’re the reason I opened my studio. Special thanks to a few people who came back several times. Let’s be friends.
6:38pm (1 note)
Quick snaps of my studio walls before I left for the day. AAW I feel ready for you!
Hello Folks. Heads Up. I will be doing a rare thing and opening my studio for Art A Whirl. Please come and see a lot of new work, and some all time favorite photographs. Old friends and new friends welcome! Look for a mention of me in the Onion, AV Club article on the Whirl, as well as their website. Thanks Andy S.

Speaking of “sidewaysness,” (see 1st image of this group) here is one. This lovely box which I believes contains a pair of women’s briefs, has a typo on the front. Instead of complimentary, it says UNCOMPLIMENTARY. This and other items were available for sale in one of our hotels. The hotel with the really really dirty carpets. The one that delivered laundry at 1 am. Not the one that Nixon stayed at in 1972.
